About Rox

Bognor Regis has a population approaching 60,000 which is significantly more than the nearby city of Chichester. Needless to say a large proportion of the town’s population are older children and teenagers who find themselves growing up with the same lack of inspiration and aspiration as any other young person throughout the country. The town also has its fair share of areas of social deprivation one of which was identified as one of the worst in the County.

More often than not, this environment provides the breeding ground for talented unsigned musicians and artists who’s frustration becomes further compounded because there are no suitable venues for them to be able to showcase their talents to the public at large; a problem which was recognised by Steve Goodheart and Terry Slade, neither of whom were strangers to the music business.

In 1991, Steve and Terry decided to erect an impromptu stage on Bognor seafront made simply from a few old beer crates and some sheets of hardboard. Today, Rox attracts audiences in their thousands to the annual festival which is provided totally free for the whole community. A series of music and art workshops for 11 – 19 year olds has also been spawned.

As Bognor embarks on a new era of inward investment and regeneration, so too does Rox Music & Arts as it begins to spread its wings and provide more opportunities… more inspiration, self-confidence and more community awareness among young people today.
